Excess Share Insurance
Specifically, ESI's coverage applies to any insured credit union's member whose aggregate savings exceed the maximum level of $100,000 in coverage provided by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the federal government.
Excess deposit insurance can be written to provide additional coverage up to $250,000 per member, thus permitting individual members to have their savings protected in the credit union (through a combination of federal and private insurance) up to $350,000. Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) are subject to separate coverage by NCUA and are insured up to $500,000, with the addition of ESI's maximum coverage.
