Debit Card Overdraft
WestStar Credit Union may, at its discretion, approve your everyday debit card transactions when you do not have enough available funds1 in your checking account at the time of the transaction. Standard overdraft fees will apply.
If you would like to have your transactions approved at our discretion, add debit card overdraft protection and avoid potential embarrassing declines at the point of sale. Debit card overdraft protection is what you need, when you need it most.
There is no fee to add the debit card overdraft protection to your account and no fee if you never use the service!
You must be enrolled in the courtesy overdraft program in order to protect your debit card transactions with debit card overdraft protection. If you would like to opt-in, please give us a call or stop by a branch. You can also securely message us within online and mobile banking. If you change your mind, don't worry — just complete this form to opt-out.
Important: Debit card overdraft protection is different from courtesy overdraft.
Courtesy overdraft will cover the payment of ACH/EFT and draft/check items when all available funds from all specified overdraft sources have been depleted. Learn more about courtesy overdraft.
If you have further questions, and would like to speak to a Member Service Representative, please call (800) 729-9328 Monday through Friday 8am to 6pm, or Saturday 9am to 1pm.
Courtesy Overdraft
Given the impact of Coronavirus, some temporary changes to Courtesy Overdraft were necessary so that this program is available for those who need it the most. If you have questions or concerns on this, please call us to discuss at (702) 791-4777.
WestStar Credit Union offers a courtesy overdraft program which may provide payment of checks, ACH/EFT transactions, and debit card transactions from checking accounts, when all available funds from all specified overdraft sources have been depleted.* For debit card overdraft protection, you must complete the Debit Card Overdraft Protection form. Overdrafts that result from using an ATM machine or a transaction with a teller will not qualify for courtesy overdraft.
The credit union may clear checks, debit card transactions (opt-in required), and ACH/EFT transactions when there are no available funds**. We will charge you a fee up to $38.50 each time we pay an overdraft.
Courtesy Overdraft program requirements:
- Must be 18 years and older, AND
- Must not have any past due WCU loans or have not caused WCU to incur a loss, AND.
- Have an active Checking account that has been open for 90 days.
- If a member has multiple accounts, courtesy overdraft may only be applied to one account per member
- Courtesy overdraft may be revoked at any time per credit union discretion
Regular and Silverstar Checking accounts meeting the above requirements are eligible for up to $750.00 (inclusive of fees), and Fresh Start Checking accounts meeting the above requirements are eligible for up to $300.00 (inclusive of fees). Accounts must be brought to a positive balance within 30 days, or Courtesy Overdraft will be revoked.
All members who qualify will be automatically enrolled in the check/ACH/EFT Courtesy Overdraft program. You must ask to add Debit Card Overdraft in order to include debit card transactions in the courtesy overdraft program. Please see Debit Card Overdraft section above to learn how to opt-in to that program.
If you do not want to participate, you may opt out of courtesy overdraft using this form.
